Walking practicedurational performance, video 7:07 2020
Los Angeles is a city designed for driving, nobody is walking on the street.
On Feb 24th, 2020, I walked 15 miles from my room at North Hills to attend a class at California Institute of the Arts. It took me 8 hours of walking to manifest the physical distance. This project is a walking practice as well as a physical contest to social normalcy, an attempt to build a personal connection with an indifferent landscape. I walk to witness what I don’t understand.
Soon after the performance, everything was shut down as the COVID-19 pandemic hit. I was trapped in the US and isolated even more. As I edit the footage, I mark the screen with charcoal using my finger, trying to reconnect with this shattered presence.
